Fleece Quilts

Okay...so I am *into* fleece quilts lately. And did I ever stumble on something that I love to do! I had some gold and brown fleece (the university colors, here) and I loaded up 2 layers on the Innova and started quilting a panto. The results are lush, cozy, heavy and very textured. They ended up being a lap size...approx 54"x54".

What did I learn. Forget the fancy thread. I used a variegated brown/rust/tan thread and it doesn't show. The stitches sink down into the fleece and make amazing texture.

Another thing...tension problems don't show! LOL! And...going off the *lines* a bit doesn't show either! The Innova handled it all like a champ, no thread breakage, hummed along..took about 5 hours to do the first one and I am pleased with the results.

Practicing on muslin in one thing but actually having something to show for the practice seems to suit me better. And the fleece is so forgiving that the finished product is actually something I would give to someone.

And, yes, I ordered more fleece.... ;)

  1. That is such a great idea! I am in the process of setting up my Voyager 17 and will try this out once I get up and running! Thanks for the idea! Keep up the great work!

  2. ...quick question.. what did you do for the edges of the quilt?? Is it flipped inside out or how? thanks.

  3. Thanks for the compliments! I have made 2 of these, so far...one, I fringed by making sure I stitched 3 inches away from the edges and only quilted in the center..then snipped every inch or so. The hemmed one..I am still working out a faster way but for this one I, again, left a few inches unquilted around the edges, trimmed the gold fleece to about 1/2 inch, turned the brown over and stitched it down. Then I pinked the raw edge close to the stitching. Does this help?

  4. Like you I am not fussed about a lot of practicing, I much prefer to actually learn as I go & have a product at the end of the lesson! life is too short for too much practice!
